Chateau D'Aix

This elegant 17th century chateau is located just 7 km north of the charming town of Aix en Provence. St.Tropez (90 minutes) and Avignon (45 km) are within easy driving distance. Although the property is not located in town, it's a three-minute trip by car or fifteen-minute walk to the village of Puyricard. The chateau has been completely updated to today's comfort standards, while maintaining its Old World charm and history. It is decorated with a mixture of formal and casual French antique furnishings. Within the park-like setting is a 12th century tower and a large 16th century chapel, which can be used for weddings, costume balls, or concerts. The property enjoys spectacular views of Mont Ste Victoire.

The beautiful heated swimming pool, open from mid-May to mid-October (not fenced), was built in 1998. It is set amidst the ruins of the palace of the Archbishop Jerome de Grimaldi, who held court at the property from 1655-1685. In addition to the pool and chapel, there is a tennis court for those who enjoy the game. The well-kept garden – about 12 acres – includes a pine forest and lovely terraces for entertaining. There are three to four parking spaces on the grounds.

This expansive villa stretches over four floors, with most common spaces being on the ground floor. The main entrance, with original painting by Florentine painters, is on the west side, and opens onto a large hall. To the left of the entrance are the library, drawing room, laundry room (washing machine and dryer), and staircase (with lift). To the right of the entrance are the main salon, fully equipped kitchen and the dining room, which is richly furnished and features valuable artwork. The spacious terraces on the east and south side of the chateau overlook the large grounds. The bedrooms have all been named for famous French artists.

Note: The chateau has a lift for luggage to the 2nd floor and is handicap accessible. The chateau is suitable for 14 people, though it can accommodate up to 22 people upon request.

Additional Informaion Guests generally arrive in Paris at Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG) and transfer to the high speed TGV train headed for Aix en Provence. Once in Aix en Provence, a rental car is suggested to drive to the villa.
Other options include flying into Marseille (MRS) or Nice (NCE) and then renting a car
